Tell us about your internship experience.

I am currently interning with the Prisoner Operations Division at United States Marshals Service for the spring 2025 semester. The USMS is a federal law enforcement agency that seeks to protect the public by apprehending fugitives, securing court facilities, and providing witness protection. I am mainly responsible for logging prisoner inquiries, whether they come by email, mail, voicemail, letter, or internal affairs. I work a lot with voicemails, listening to concerns that families and friends may have, as well as the questions or needs of local, state, and federal law enforcement, and attorneys.

My favorite parts about interning at the USMS are meeting new people and attending field trips. We went to the Superior Court, the D.C. District Court, the ATF K9 training facility, the HSI Angel Watch Center, the Alexandria Detention Center, and the Pentagon. I had the pleasure of meeting some incredible individuals with years and years of experience who were able to share their career and life advice with me and my fellow interns.

What was your favorite part about living in DC this semester?

My favorite part about living in D.C. is exploring a new environment. Growing up in Connecticut, there was never much to do in terms of exploring or activities. In D.C. there are museums, festivals, concerts, sports games, and plenty of coffee shops and restaurants to try. Yes, it is important to make sure that your assignments are in on time, you’re getting your internship work done, and that you’re networking with as many people as possible, but don’t forget to enjoy yourself. There are so many things to do and so many places to see. Allow yourself time to have fun and really immerse yourself in the D.C. experience.
