EARNING CREDIT FOR SUMMER

If your school does not award credit for our summer program, you can earn up to 12 credits from our summer school of record, Belmont University, and transfer them back to your home institution.

  • Please note that if your school does award credits for our summer program, you must go through your school to earn credits; you cannot earn credits from Belmont University. This applies to Roger Williams University and other schools; please contact us with any questions you have.

There is no additional fee for Belmont credits. You are simply responsible for the Washington Internship Institute’s program fee, housing fee and housing deposit. It is not possible to receive financial aid from Belmont or your home institution.

Here’s how that will work:

  1. When you fill out your application to the Washington Internship Institute, you’ll answer “Yes” to the Summer Credit Option question to indicate your interest in receiving more information about Belmont credit. Complete your Washington Internship Institute application and receive notice of acceptance.

  2. At the same time, consult with your faculty adviser on your campus to determine how the Belmont credits will apply to your degree and to seek approval from your school for transfer credits.

  3. Notify your Internship Program Coordinator at the Washington Internship Institute regarding which program components (i.e. internship, internship seminar, and core course) will transfer.

  4. Complete Belmont’s non-degree application using the instructions we provide.

  5. You’ll start the program and have a rewarding academic internship experience in DC! Once the program is complete, you may order transcripts from Belmont’s transcript provider for your home institution and yourself.

We encourage you to apply prior to the deadline to allow for the greatest range of placement options. Applying early is essential if you are interested in high-profile organizations, if you are a journalism student, or if you want to intern in certain government agencies. Visit our Deadlines and Program Dates page to learn about the best time to apply, or contact us if you have any questions.
